1941-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this pre-war 1941-D Washington Silver Quarter from the Denver Mint exhibits extensive die cracking at the LDS stage concentrated around the heraldic eagle and portrait. Die markers UVC-0201 / DMR-017 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with die crack down eagle's right wing to Q of QUARTER at LDS, die crack from last S of STATES to wing under AM of AMERICA, die crack northeast from eagle's head through M of UNUM to S of PLURIBUS, die crack across hair into field between TY of LIBERTY at LDS, and die crack across bust into ribbon. The five concurrent die cracks at Stage C document catastrophic structural failure across both faces. Designed by John Flanagan, struck in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm, the 1941-D preceded U.S. entry into WWII by months.
