Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1941-D 1¢ WRPM-016, this Lincoln Wheat Cent exhibits a D/D Tilted (Rotated) repunched mintmark — a variant where the secondary D impression was applied at a rotational angle relative to the primary, producing an asymmetric separation pattern where different portions of the D show varying degrees of offset depending on their distance from the rotation's pivot point. No cross-references to other cataloging systems are currently known. Obverse die markers include a die scratch running north from the back of Lincoln's collar. Reverse markers are extensive: north-south die scratches run through UNUM, north-northeast to south-southwest die scratches appear at the D in UNITED and the AM of AMERICA — a widespread pattern of directional scratches across the reverse inscriptions that provides multiple identification points. The tilted RPM classification distinguishes this variety from simple directional repunches because the rotational component creates a diagnostic signature that varies around the circumference of the D letterform, with maximum separation at points farthest from the pivot and convergence near the pivot itself.
