1941-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-011
Error
Description
Cataloged as 1941-D 1¢ WRPM-011 by the Wexler Team and cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #9, this Denver Lincoln Wheat cent shows the D mintmark repunched to the northwest (D/D Northwest). The obverse is rich in die markers: scratches run north from the beard and nose, lathe marks appear near the rim above the D in GOD, WE, and the first T in TRUST, and additional lathe marks extend near the rim from the back of the bust past its front. A die gouge marks the bottom of the jacket near the fold, a heavy gouge cuts through the bottom of the lapel fold, and a long gouge runs under the front of the bust. On the reverse, a feeder finger die scratch runs northwest-to-southeast through the left wheat lines opposite the C in CENT, and a die scratch extends from the bottom of the S in PLURIBUS to the first U in UNUM. Photos for this variety were taken by Brian Ribar for the Wexler RPM Files. The extensive network of lathe marks and gouges makes this one of the more diagnostic-rich RPM varieties among 1941-D Wheat cents, offering multiple confirmation points beyond the mintmark itself.
