1941-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

Displaying a D/D Northwest displacement and documenting a reverse die change mid-production, this VarietyVista-recorded 1941-D Lincoln Wheat Cent shows how a single RPM obverse die could outlast its initial reverse pairing. Die markers span two pairings: UVC-095 / DMR-006 for Stage A with a light die gouge through lower front vest at EDS and reverse at EDS, and Stage B with obverse at MDS and a die crack running rim to rim through right wheat at MDS; then UVC-3388 / DMR-019 for Stage C with weak secondary mintmark at LDS, the vest gouge nearly gone, and a freshly changed reverse at MDS. The progressive erasure of the vest gouge from light at EDS to almost gone at LDS mirrors the RPM attenuation. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, struck at Denver in the last full pre-war year.
