1941-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Displaying a D/D Southeast displacement, this 1941-D Lincoln Wheat Cent was documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-092 / DMR-003 track three stages: Stage A at EDS with a die gouge between the D and W of GOD WE near the rim and the reverse at EDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS with the die gouge worn away and the reverse at LDS. The progression from visible gouge at EDS to worn away at LDS illustrates how repeated striking gradually erases die surface features. At 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc, 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, Brenner's wheat ears reverse was in its 33rd year by 1941. The southeastward shift indicates the initial D was placed northwest of target, with correction leaving a remnant of the first impression.
