1941-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

Primary repunched mintmark for the 1941-D Jefferson Nickel, RPM-001 displays a D/D West displacement — the secondary impression shifted left of the primary position. Cataloged by VarietyVista with codes UVC-006 and DMR-002, the variety documents hand-punched die preparation at Denver during the prewar era, before wartime silver composition began in 1942. Struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel, this coin comes from a year of rising production as the economy accelerated under defense mobilization. Die progression spans four states: obverse EDS, reverse EDS, MDS, and LDS. The separate early die state records for each side indicate independent deterioration tracking. As RPM-001, this carries the strongest visible displacement among documented RPMs for the date. Felix Schlag's Jefferson portrait and Monticello reverse were in their third year of production, still a young design in a series that would span decades.
