1940-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

Holding the primary catalog position for the 1940-D date, this VarietyVista-documented Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent tracks progressive mintmark attenuation alongside accumulating die damage. Die markers UVC-078 / DMR-002: Stage A with strong secondary mintmark at EDS, a die gouge following the frontal hairline, and reverse at EDS; Stage B with medium secondary mintmark at MDS, light die cracks over V.D.B. and on shoulder, and reverse at MDS; Stage C with weak secondary mintmark at LDS, die cracks over V.D.B. and on shoulder, a new die crack connecting the shoulder and V.D.B. cracks, a die crack from lapel to rim, and reverse at LDS. The connecting crack between shoulder and V.D.B. at Stage C documents fracture propagation merging formerly separate stress lines. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm.
