1939-S Repunched Mintmark WRPM-003

Description

Showing a tilted or rotated S/S repunched mintmark, the 1939-S Lincoln Wheat Cent WRPM-003 was attributed by the Wexler Team. The obverse carries a west-northwest die scratch from the upper left of G in GOD and a die chip in Lincoln's hair below the D in GOD. The reverse displays more extensive die markers: a north-south die crack at the center of the right wheat grains, another north-south die crack at the top of the left wheat grains, and a longer die crack running from the right upper C in CENT through the O in ONE, continuing between the L and first U in PLURIBUS before reaching the rim. This network of reverse die cracks provides strong attribution confirmation beyond the mintmark repunching itself. The rotated S/S indicates the mintmark punch was applied twice with a slight angular difference, creating an overlapping impression. San Francisco cents from 1939 had a mintage under 53 million, and documented RPM varieties from this date add collectible depth to the series.
