1939-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this 1939-D Wheat Cent carries die markers UVC-073 / DMR-003 tracking progressive deterioration concentrated around the designer's initials. Stage A at EDS shows a very light die crack over V.D.B. with the reverse also at EDS. Stage B develops a minute die chip over the V of V.D.B. at MDS with the reverse at MDS. Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). Victor David Brenner's initials, restored to the obverse in 1918 after their controversial 1909 removal, appear in tiny letters on the shoulder truncation and are a frequent location for die deterioration because their fine detail concentrates striking forces. Struck at the Denver Mint, composed of 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc, weighing 3.11 grams with a 19.05 mm diameter.
