Sixth in the catalog of documented repunched mintmarks for the 1938-D Lincoln Wheat Cent, RPM-006 reflects the depth of variety research directed at this date. The 1938-D occupies a transitional moment — it was the year Denver began producing the new Jefferson Nickel alongside Wheat Cents, as the Buffalo Nickel was retired. Struck in bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc) at Denver during the late Depression when mintages were climbing from early-1930s lows. Documented by VarietyVista with codes UVC-066 and DMR-008, the variety has been tracked across three die states: Stage A with both sides in early die state, Stage B at mid-die state, and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). The DMR-008 code indicates this is the eighth die marriage in the VarietyVista roster for the date, reflecting how systematically the 1938-D has been studied.
