1937-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

An S/S West (Wide) variety from the San Francisco Mint, this VarietyVista-documented Lincoln Wheat Cent demonstrates progressive mintmark attenuation to near-invisibility. Die markers UVC-059 / DMR-003: Stage A has a light but visible secondary mintmark at EDS with circular die scratches under bust, a small die gouge dot above the right side of the T of LIBERTY, and reverse at LDS. Stage B is MDS (unconfirmed). Stage C reveals an extremely weak, barely visible secondary mintmark at LDS with a light die crack in upper right wheat grains at VVLDS. The VVLDS (Very Very Late Die State) designation on the reverse indicates production well beyond the typical die service window. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the wide westward displacement creates a visually prominent separation between the primary and secondary S impressions.
