Description
The 1936 Bridgeport Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of 25,015, this is a scarce commemorative issue. Struck in 1935 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Connecticut colony in 1635. The obverse features the Charter Oak, the famous tree in Hartford where Connecticut's Royal Charter was reportedly hidden in 1687 to prevent its seizure by the English governor, while the reverse displays an eagle perched on a shield, surrounded by a wreath. Designed by Henry Kreis. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9279. With a mintage of 25,018, the Connecticut Tercentenary Half Dollar is a moderately scarce one-year issue. The Charter Oak design tells one of the most colorful stories in colonial American history.
