1935 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001
Error
Description
Paired with WDDO-003 on the obverse as a combo variety, this 1935 Mercury Dime WDDR-001 carries doubled dies on both sides. Struck in 90% silver, the Mercury Dime features Adolph Weinman's Liberty in a winged Phrygian cap, a design produced from 1916 through 1945. The obverse as WDDO-003 exhibits Class II spread toward center on the date, designer's initials, and slightly on IN GOD WE TRUST, where the inward-directed hub displacement compressed these elements. Cross-referenced as CONECA 2-O-II and cataloged by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 1935 10¢ WDDR-001, the reverse doubling complements the obverse attribution to create a fully paired combo variety. The combo relationship means both obverse and reverse carry independently cataloged hub doubling, giving collectors diagnostics on both sides of this Depression-era silver dime. The CONECA 2-O-II designation provides an independent cross-reference for the obverse component. Class II spread toward center creates a distinctive compression effect on affected design elements, differentiating this from outward-spreading doubled die classes. Two short, vertical die scratches can be found to the left of the lips. A NNW/SSE die scratch can be found to the left of the chin. Reverse: Two parallel die scratches run SSE from the bottom of the UN in UNUM.
