1935 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-005
Error
Description
Extra thickness on this 1935 Lincoln Wheat cent reverse appears on E PLURIBUS UNUM, both flanking dots, and on both wheat ears and stems. The spread is stronger on the left side of the reverse — a quick visual checkpoint when examining candidates. Cross-references: CONECA 1-R-II+VI; Wexler Variety ID 1935 1¢ WDDR-005. Confirming obverse die markers include an ESE/WNW die scratch between the W and E of WE, a short die scratch north from the upper left of the R in LIBERTY, a die crack from the D in GOD toward the rim, and a short die scratch from the upper left of the second T in TRUST. The 1935 Lincoln cent was struck in Philadelphia in bronze with a mintage of approximately 245 million pieces. Wheat reverse doubled dies from the 1930s remain popular with collectors who appreciate the original Brenner design, and WDDR-005's left-weighted spread pattern gives it a distinctive character within the 1935 variety roster maintained by both the Wexler Files and CONECA.
