Description

The 1934 Boone Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of 10,007, this is a scarce commemorative issue. Authorized in 1934 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Daniel Boone, the legendary American frontiersman who blazed the Wilderness Road through the Cumberland Gap and founded Boonesborough, Kentucky. The obverse features a bust of Daniel Boone facing left, wearing a coonskin cap and buckskin shirt, while the reverse displays Daniel Boone and Chief Blackfish standing together, with a stockade fort and the inscription PIONEER YEAR in the background. Designed by Augustus Lukeman. The initial 1934 issue was struck only at Philadelphia. A later variety with a small '1934' added to the reverse is scarcer. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9257. The Daniel Boone series offers an affordable entry into multi-year commemoratives, though completing a full set of all date-mint combinations requires dedication.
