1929 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

Among Lincoln Wheat Cents of the late 1920s, the 1929 WDDR-001 stands out as a Class VI extra-thickness doubled die affecting virtually every reverse element. The distended hub doubling manifests on all letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM, both dots flanking the motto, both wheat ears, and both wheat stems—producing a uniformly thickened appearance across the entire reverse design. Cross-referenced as CONECA 1-R-VI and Coppercoins 1929P-1DR-001, this variety is well documented in major attribution systems. Die markers on the reverse include two parallel die scratches running northeast to southwest through the upper L of PLURIBUS, providing a reliable secondary diagnostic. The obverse of the examined specimen, a lower-grade example, showed no significant die markers, though higher-grade coins may reveal additional obverse diagnostics. A higher-grade reverse specimen may also yield further identifying markers beyond the documented scratches. Class VI extra thickness shows on all letters of EPU, both dots, both wheat ears, and both wheat stems.
