1929 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002
Error
Description
Very strong Class VI extra thickness affects all letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM, both dots, both wheat ears, both wheat stems, and the top of ONE on this 1929 Lincoln wheat cent reverse, making WDDR-002 one of the boldest doubled die reverses in the early wheat cent series. Attributed by the Wexler Team, the obverse shows die scratches running north-south to the right of the vertical bar of the L in LIBERTY and inside the upper R of LIBERTY. A short die gouge runs south-southwest from the lower left of the C in AMERICA on the reverse. Cross-referenced with photography by John Bordner for the Wexler Doubled Die Files, the breadth of the doubling across virtually every reverse element distinguishes this variety from the many subtle Class VI spreads that characterize most wheat cent doubled dies.
