1929-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001
Error
Description
First documented repunched mint mark for the 1929 Denver Lincoln Wheat Cent, WRPM-001 is attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 1929-D 1-cent WRPM-001 and cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #1 and Coppercoins 1929D-1MM-001. Two die stages are documented with distinct die markers. Stage A shows a light northeast-to-southwest die gouge in the left upper area of the first T in TRUST, with lathe scratches visible between the bust and the rim. Stage B exhibits a weaker die gouge, with the scratches below the bust weak to gone and any remaining RPM markers significantly reduced. The progressive weakening from Stage A to Stage B illustrates how continued die use and polishing gradually diminish the visibility of both repunching evidence and incidental die markers. Struck in the bronze composition of 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc that characterized all Lincoln Wheat Cents from 1909 through 1958, the 1929-D carries Victor David Brenner's iconic obverse portrait. The triple cross-referencing across Wexler, CONECA, and Coppercoins catalogs confirms this as a well-established variety recognized by all major attribution services. Reverse Stage A: NE/SW die scratch inside and through the lower left of the first U of PLURIBUS. Reverse Stage B: Weaker die scratch shows only inside the U.
