Description
The 1928 (S) Standing Liberty Quarter is a quarter produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Standing Liberty Quarters 1916-1930 series. With a mintage of 2.6 million, this is a less common issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 25% of production. The obverse features Liberty standing in a gateway between two walls, holding an olive branch and a shield and the reverse displays an eagle in flight. Minted during and after World War I, as America emerged as a global power and experienced the prosperity of the Roaring Twenties. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $20 to $292 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 6.3 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
