Description

The 1928 Peace Dollar is a dollar produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Peace Dollars 1921-1935 series. With a mintage of 360,649, this is an extremely rare issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features a youthful Liberty facing left wearing a radiate crown, designed after sculptor Anthony de Francisci's wife Teresa and the reverse displays a bald eagle perched on a rock above the word PEACE, with rays of sunlight. Struck only at Philadelphia with a mintage of 360,649 — the lowest regular-issue mintage in the series and a key date. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $298 to $4.3K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7373.
