Produced at the San Francisco Mint, the 1927 (S) Standing Liberty Quarter is part of the Standing Liberty Quarters 1916-1930 series. With a mintage of 396,000, this is an extremely rare issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 3% of total production. The obverse features Liberty standing in a gateway between two walls, holding an olive branch and a shield and the reverse displays an eagle in flight. The 1927-S is a semi-key date, especially in higher grades. The San Francisco Mint, a Gold Rush-era institution, now specializes in proof and collector coinage.
