Description
Cataloged at I-5 R-6 on the VAM rarity scale, making it both impactful and genuinely scarce, the 1927-P Peace Dollar VAM-2A shows Doubled Motto and Rays combined with a Collar Clash Below Mountains. The doubling affects the motto and rays on the reverse, while the collar clash produces a weak reeding impression on the rim below the mountain design elements — the combination of these two die events on a single die pair is the defining characteristic. A short vertical die scratch is present at the middle olive leaf, and die scratches are also visible beneath the A in PEACE. Discovery was recorded in both 2012 and 2017 in VAMWorld documentation. First attributed via the VAMWorld research community, VAM-2A's R-6 designation places it among the rarest documented 1927-P Peace Dollar varieties. The Peace Dollar was struck in 90% silver, and the 1927-P had a limited mintage compared to earlier Peace Dollar issues, adding date-level scarcity on top of the variety's confirmed R-6 rarity.
