Description

Discovered in 2010 and revised in 2011, VAM-2B2 on the 1926-S Peace Dollar is classified II1 · B2b, I-3 obverse and R-5 reverse rarity. The obverse shows a shallow die gouge in front of Liberty's eye, die file lines and beveled field in front of the forehead and upper nose, a shortened front ray near the hair, slight doubling at the top of the 6 and on the designer's initials, and a die crack at the Liberty head truncation — a distinct obverse die from VAM-2B1. The reverse B2b carries heavy die file lines at the clash marks, with feathers missing from the eagle's left wing from aggressive die filing — also distinct from VAM-2B1's reverse. The 1926-S Peace Dollar is a 90% silver San Francisco Mint issue using the motto TRVST. The missing wing feathers combined with the High S mintmark are the most immediately striking visual features.
