Description

Discovered in 2015 by Bill Toland, the 1926-P VAM-7 Peace Dollar is classified as II2 – B2e (Doubled Top Olive Leaves and Berries) with an impact rating of I-2 and a rarity of R-5, indicating moderate scarcity within the Peace Dollar variety spectrum. The reverse (B2e) exhibits slightly doubled top olive leaves and berries, the right side of the right claw, feathers in front of the right leg, bottom of rear leg feathers, and the bottom edge of the middle of the eagle’s right wing — a broad distribution of subtle reverse doubling spanning multiple design elements from the olive branch through the eagle’s body to the wing. Community commentary provides an important clarification: the doubling along the back of the eagle’s neck is actually the strongest doubling on the entire reverse, yet it was omitted from the official description — a detail that helps collectors by directing examination to the most visible diagnostic area. Anthony de Francisci’s Peace Dollar design features a radiant Liberty head on the obverse and a perched bald eagle before rays of sunlight on the reverse, symbolizing peace following World War I. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1926 in 90% silver at 26.73 grams with a 38.1 mm diameter, the 1926-P had a mintage of approximately 1.94 million pieces — a relatively low production figure that adds baseline scarcity to the date independent of the variety’s own R-5 rarity.
