Description
The 1925 (S) California Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 86,394 examples. Struck in 1925 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of California's admission to the Union in 1850. The obverse features a kneeling figure of a gold miner panning for gold, representing the 1849 Gold Rush that spurred California's rapid settlement, while the reverse displays a grizzly bear walking left, the state animal of California. Designed by Jo Mora. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9281. With a mintage of 86,594, the California Diamond Jubilee Half Dollar is a moderately scarce classic commemorative. Its distinctive western imagery makes it one of the most visually appealing coins in the series.
