1925 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001

Description

Cataloged as UVC-3378 and DMR-002 in the VarietyVista system, the 1925 Lincoln Wheat Cent DDR-001 exhibits extra thickness on E PLURIBUS UNUM, both wheat stalks and stems, ONE, and AMERICA. Die stage progression documents three stages: Stage A is an unconfirmed early die state. Stage B is an unconfirmed mid-die-state. Stage C reaches late die state with a light die scratch running from the nose to the chin on the obverse. The extra thickness across the wheat stalks and stems is diagnostically useful because the fine parallel lines of the wheat ear design provide a clear background against which even moderate thickening becomes visible. The Stage C nose-to-chin scratch offers a useful late-die-state sorting criterion for collectors evaluating specimens from this early-date Lincoln Wheat Cent variety.
