Description
The 1923 (S) Standing Liberty Quarter represents a San Francisco Mint issue from the Standing Liberty Quarters 1916-1930 series. With a mintage of 1.4 million, this is a scarce issue — the scarcer of two mint variants, with 12% of total production. The obverse features Liberty standing in a gateway between two walls, holding an olive branch and a shield and the reverse displays an eagle in flight. The 1923-S is a scarce issue in all grades and particularly challenging with the Full Head designation. Coined at the San Francisco Mint, which transitioned from Gold Rush-era production to its modern role producing proof and collector issues. Estimated market value ranges from $324 to $4.1K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 6.3 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
