Error
Description
Bill Van Note's July 2004 discovery of the 1922-S VAM-1E identified a San Francisco Mint Peace Dollar with distinctive double clash spikes rising from the eagle's right shoulder. Cataloged as 1E II 1 B1a and rated I-2 for interest and R-6 for rarity, this variety is among the scarcest Peace Dollar die marriages documented. The reverse shows weak double long vertical clash spikes projecting upward from the eagle's right shoulder, positioned closer together and further to the right than those found on the related VAM-1D variety. This positional distinction between the two varieties requires careful comparison, as the spike placement is the primary differentiating feature.
