Description
The 1922 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent was struck at the Denver Mint as a cent in the Lincoln Wheat Cents 1909-1958 series. With a mintage of 7.2 million, this is a less common issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Abraham Lincoln facing right, the first real person depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays two wheat stalks framing ONE CENT, symbolizing American agriculture. The 1922 "No D" variety, caused by a heavily worn Denver die, is one of the most sought-after Lincoln Cent errors. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $30 to $1.2K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc, weighing 3.11 grams, 19 mm in diameter, with a plain edge.
