1921-S VAM-1B4b Thorn Head Die Gouges, Die State 7 Discovered March 2011 by Chuck Emery and Smitty This coin is a Hit List 40 Morgan Vam. 1B4b (revised) IV 1 - D2a (Thorn Head Die Gouges, Die State 7) (189) Obverse IV 1 - Seventh die state with added two short die gouges from denticles into field above forth left star and one in denticles below second right star. Different location than other gouges. Polished die of 1B4a with single thin gouge in denticles next to fourth left star remaining. DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: This coin still has the above cap gouges of 1B4a but has added the left fourth star and right second star gouges. The 1B4b has the lower obverse gouges of the 1B5 but does not have the long gouge above the B in PLURIBUS that is present on the 1B5. 1921-S VAM-1B5, 1921-S VAM-1B4A or Back to the main 1921-S Thornhead page The reverse formerly specified that some coins had a gouge between the E in ONE and D in DOLLAR. This became 1921-S VAM-1B4c.
