Description

Michael Ash discovered the 1921-S VAM-1AP in April 2007, recording it with the classification 1AP IV1 - D2a and the working title Clashed In & s, assigned an I-2 interest rating and an R-6 rarity designation. This is a clashed die variety in which two elements from the reverse legend transferred to the obverse during a clash event. A partial incuse impression of the letters "In" — from the word TRUST on the reverse — appears next to Liberty's neck on the obverse. A second, fainter incuse impression of the "s" from the word TRUST is visible in the right hair vee along the lower hair edge. The obverse die is classified as IV1. The reverse die is the D2a type, shared with other 1921-S VAMs. The R-6 rarity rating places this variety among the genuinely scarce attributions in the 1921-S series, and the I-2 interest rating reflects that while the die clash imagery is diagnostic, it requires careful examination to confirm. Collectors should use magnification and good lighting when searching for the incuse clash marks against the hair detail. =1921-S VAM-1AP Clashed In & s= Discovered by Michael Ash, April 2007.
