Description
The 1921 (S) Morgan Dollar - Zerbe Special Strike is a special strike dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Morgan Dollars 1878-1921 series. With a mintage of 25, this is an extremely rare issue — the lowest mintage among 7 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, encircled by stars and the reverse displays an eagle with outstretched wings clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a wreath. Revived for one year before being replaced by the Peace Dollar. Struck at Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco with very high mintages. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Auction record: $117,500 SP65 08-08-2013 Heritage Auctions.
