1921 Lincoln Wheat Cent Die Clash

Description

This 1921 Lincoln Wheat cent exhibits a die clash affecting both sides. On the reverse, the bottom of the back of Lincoln's head and the top of his back are transferred into the field, and on the obverse parts of the C and N from CENT are clashed into the portrait area. The paired transfer confirms the dies met with enough force to impress each design into the opposing die face. This clash pattern is distinct from the atypical 1921 clash cataloged as ADC-1c-1921-01, which shows the C left of Lincoln together with lettering from UNITED behind the head. Philadelphia struck 39,157,000 cents in 1921.
