Description
The 1920 Pilgrim Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 152,112 examples. Authorized to mark the 300th anniversary of the Pilgrims' landing at Plymouth Rock in 1620. The obverse features governor William Bradford standing in full Pilgrim attire, holding a Bible, while the reverse displays the Mayflower under full sail. Designed by Cyrus E. Dallin. The original 1920 issue had a mintage of 152,112 pieces, making it one of the more available classic commemoratives. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9359. The 1920 issue is relatively common among classic commemoratives, but the 1921 version with the added date had a much lower mintage and commands a premium. Together they represent an important chapter in early American history.
