Description
The 1918 Lincoln-Illinois Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 100,058 examples. Authorized in 1918 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Illinois statehood, this coin prominently features Abraham Lincoln — making it one of the earliest U.S. The obverse features a bust of Abraham Lincoln facing right, adapted from the statue by Andrew O'Connor in the Illinois State Capitol, while the reverse displays the Illinois State Seal with an eagle holding a shield, standing on a boulder on a prairie. Designed by George T. Morgan/John R. Sinnock. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9320. The Illinois Centennial Half Dollar is a popular type coin among Lincoln collectors and state commemorative enthusiasts. Its relatively affordable price point and historical significance make it an excellent entry into the classic commemorative series.
