Description
Produced at the Denver Mint, the 1916 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent is part of the Lincoln Wheat Cents 1909-1958 series. The U.S. Mint produced 36.0 million examples, making this ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 19% of production. The obverse features Abraham Lincoln facing right, the first real person depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays two wheat stalks framing ONE CENT, symbolizing American agriculture. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $154 depending on grade and condition.
