Description
Cross-referenced as FS-501 and holding the lead RPM position, this 1916-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar documented by VarietyVista shows D/D North from the inaugural year of Adolph A. Weinman's celebrated design. D/D North. FS-501. Die markers UVC-003 / DMR-002 track three stages: Stage A with both obverse and reverse at EDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). Struck at Denver in 90% silver and 10% copper, weighing 12.50 grams at 30.61 mm diameter, the 1916-D mintage of approximately 1.01 million makes it a key date. Weinman's Liberty striding toward the sunrise and the heraldic eagle reverse created a design so admired it was revived for the American Silver Eagle bullion program beginning in 1986.
