The 1915 (S) Panama-Pacific International Exposition Commemorative Gold Fifty Dollar - Round is a commemorative dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint. With a mintage of only 483, this is an extremely rare issue. Issued to celebrate the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, which commemorated the completion of the Panama Canal and the rebuilding of San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake. The obverse features columbia scattering flowers from her open hands, with a child behind her holding a cornucopia and the Golden Gate in the background, while the reverse displays an eagle with raised wings perched on a shield bearing the inscription E PLURIBUS UNUM. Designed by Robert Aitken. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 83.59 grams, 43.2 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7451. With a mintage of just 27,134 pieces, the Panama-Pacific Half Dollar is a scarce and desirable classic commemorative. It represents one of the most ambitious commemorative coin programs in U.S. history.
