Description
The 1915 (S) Indian Head Eagle, struck at the San Francisco Mint, is part of the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 collection. With a mintage of 59,000, this is a scarce issue — the scarcer of two mint variants, with 14% of total production. The obverse features a Native American wearing a feathered war bonnet, facing left and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST. Philadelphia and San Francisco struck eagles. The 1915-S is a better date. The San Francisco Mint, a Gold Rush-era institution, now specializes in proof and collector coinage. Estimated market value ranges from $2.6K to $24K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.7 grams, 26.8 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8879.
