Description
Holding the primary catalog position for the 1915-D date and cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-501, this VarietyVista-documented Buffalo Nickel displays a D/D Northeast repunched mintmark from only the third year of Denver Mint production in James Earle Fraser's iconic series. Specimens needed for new color, high-magnification digital photographs. Die markers UVC-022 / DMR-002 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse at MDS and obverse at LDS; Stage C with reverse at LDS and a die crack from head to rim at K-12 at VLDS. The VLDS die crack extending from the bison's head to the rim documents extreme structural fatigue. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1915-D had a mintage of approximately 7.6 million pieces, and the FS-501 listing makes this a Cherrypickers' Guide target.
