Error
Description
Holding the lead catalog position for the 1914-S date, this Buffalo Nickel was documented by VarietyVista with an S/S North displacement. Die markers UVC-017 / DMR-002: Stage A EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B reverse and obverse MDS; Stage C LDS (unconfirmed). The cataloger requests a specimen with new color, high-magnification digital photographs. As RPM-001, this was likely the first discovered or most visually prominent RPM for the date. The 1914-S was struck in only the second year of San Francisco production for this denomination, with a mintage of approximately 3.5 million. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, early-date San Francisco Buffalo Nickels are prized by collectors. Repunched mintmark varieties from these low-mintage years are inherently scarcer than those from higher-production dates later in the series.
