Description

This 1913 (S) Lincoln Wheat cent displays two distinct error types: a pre-cud from 7:00 to 8:00 on the reverse and a die clash with part of the N from ONE CENT clashed between Lincoln's chin and bowtie on the obverse. A pre-cud is a late-stage die crack at the rim that has not yet broken through to create a full cud — metal is beginning to flow into the developing crack but the die rim piece remains partially attached. The combination of both error types on this coin indicates the die experienced both surface-to-surface clash damage and progressive rim deterioration.
