Description

The 1911 St. Gaudens Double Eagle is a Gold Double Eagle produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the St. Gaudens Double Eagles 1907-1933 series. With a mintage of 197,200, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 11% of total production. The obverse features Liberty striding forward holding a torch and olive branch, with rays of sunlight behind her — widely considered the most beautiful U.S. coin design and the reverse displays a flying eagle with the rising sun behind it. The 1911-D and 1911-S are accessible Denver and San Francisco dates for collectors building date sets. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $4.9K to $5.3K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 33.4 grams, 34 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9157.
