Description
The 1911 St. Gaudens Double Eagle, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is part of the St. Gaudens Double Eagles 1907-1933 collection. With a mintage of 197,200, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 11% of total production. The obverse features Liberty striding forward holding a torch and olive branch, with rays of sunlight behind her — widely considered the most beautiful U.S. coin design and the reverse displays a flying eagle with the rising sun behind it. The 1911-D and 1911-S are accessible Denver and San Francisco dates for collectors building date sets. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding. Estimated market value ranges from $4.9K to $5.3K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 33.4 grams, 34 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge.
