Description
Produced at the San Francisco Mint, the 1911 (S) Indian Head Eagle is part of the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 series. With a mintage of 51,000, this is a scarce issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 9% of production. The obverse features a Native American wearing a feathered war bonnet, facing left and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST. Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco struck eagles. The 1911-D is a semi-key date. The San Francisco Mint, a Gold Rush-era institution, now specializes in proof and collector coinage. Estimated market value ranges from $2.7K to $16K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.7 grams, 26.8 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge.
