Description

The 1911 Indian Head Eagle represents a Philadelphia Mint issue from the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 series. The U.S. Mint produced 505,500 examples, making this the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 86% of the year's production. The obverse features a Native American wearing a feathered war bonnet, facing left and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST. Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco struck eagles. The 1911-D is a semi-key date. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $2.6K to $3.1K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.7 grams, 26.8 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8868.
