Description

Cataloged by Cuds on Coins with VNC file numbers from the Thurman and Margolis Cud Book, this 1906 Liberty Head Nickel exhibits a cud where a section of the die rim fractured and broke away, allowing planchet metal to flow into the void during striking and produce a raised featureless blob at the coin's edge. Cross-referenced as CU-5c-1906-02R, documented 10/12/2018. Charles E. Barber designed the Liberty Head Nickel, featuring a left-facing Liberty wearing a coronet on the obverse and a Roman numeral V within a wreath on the reverse. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighing 5.0 grams with a 21.21 mm diameter.
