1902-P VAM-30
Error
Description
VAM-30 on the 1902 Philadelphia Morgan Dollar was discovered by Mark Butler in May 2024, making it one of the most recently identified varieties in the 1902-P series. The die pair number is currently unassigned. The variety is catalogued as 30, obverse III2 19, reverse C4k, with the attribution: Engraved Leaves. The date is positioned at the left edge of the normal lateral range. A die marker on the obverse places polishing lines in front of Liberty's eye. The reverse is defined by the C4k classification: wreath leaves opposite the ON in ONE and the U in UNITED show crude re-engraving, a deliberate die-cutter modification in which existing leaf detail was reworked. The edge of the inner leaf of the first leaf cluster affected shows the re-engraving most prominently. The 1902 Morgan Dollar was struck in 90% silver at the Philadelphia Mint.
