Description
1902-O VAM-4A Near Date, Clashed Obverse G Discovered by Mark Kimpton, March 2004. (Delisted, Late Die State of VAM-48A) 2013 4A III23 · C4a (Near Date, Clashed Obverse G) (181) I-2 R-5 Obverse III23– Clashed die with left side of G of God from reverse showing next to Liberty head neck. Comments: Note: In early 2010, the V4A Discovery Coin was compared to the V48A Discovery Coin. The conclusion drawn by the two experienced Vammers was that they are the same die marriage. Thus, one or the other, the V4A or V48A needs to be de-listed. The coins still have not been run by Leroy yet side-by-side. 1. The V4A is an LDS of the V48A, where the clashed "m" is gone from die wear. 2. There is a scratch along the cheek just above the chin/neck junction of 4A/48A as shown in the VAM Plates below. Thus the obverse dies are the same. A comparison of the reverse dies used for both coins shows the same thing.
