1902-O VAM-12A Doubled Profile, Near Date, 2 Olive Reverse, Clashed Obverse n & s Discovered by Mark Kimpton, February 2004. 12A III26 · C4/C3a (Doubled Profile, Near Date, 2 Olive Reverse, Clashed Obverse n & s) (181) Obverse III26– Clashed die with faint partial incuse n of In from reverse next to Liberty's neck and partial s of Trust from reverse showing in right hair vee of lower hair edge. Reverse C4/C3a - Emission Sequence: 1902-O VAM-12???, 1902-O VAM-12A, 1902-O VAM-12 Obverse: Reverse: Comments: The true V12A comes with a strongly clashed "n" as shown below in the VAM Plate, even though it is listed as a "faint" transfer. Shortly after the clash episode, the dies were removed and polished, essentially removing the clashed "n". The wing clash at Liberty's neck is also much shorter than shown below in the VAM Plate. I have seen PLish coins of this marriage, post-polish. The dies were then remarried, and had a long run. Although a "tic" of the "n" is still visible on the post-polished die version, it would be considered a V12. Carefully examine your coin to make sure you have a true V12A, and not a post-polished version which is a V12. The true V12A is much, much harder to find than the common V12.
