Description
1901-P VAM-3 Shifted Eagle, Double Die Reverse Discovered by Francis Klaes, June 1963. This coin is a Top 100 and a WOW! Morgan VAM. 3 III2 1 C4b (Shifted Eagle) (189) Reverse C4b - Shifted Eagle variety. Eagle has been shifted to twelve o'clock so that the lower part of the eagle's wings, tail feathers, olive branch and leaves,arrow shafts and arrowheads and eagle's lower beak are strongly doubled. Letters OD and W are doubled below and within the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. The doubling was caused by a misalignment between the hub and die in one of the early blows. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: '''Comments: 1901 VAM-3 Shifted Eagle. This amazing VAM has an incredibly doubled reverse. The eagle's tail feathers are strongly doubled. The variety has crossed over into the mainstream Morgan sets as a "must have" and is listed in the Red Book. This VAM also sports a doubled profile (forehead & chin) as well as doubling of Liberty's eyelash.
